Endometriosis is a benign but chronic condition where tissue resembling the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. This tissue can settle in various locations such as the ovaries, abdomen, pelvis, intestines, or abdominal lining. Endometrial tissue has the potential to grow in virtually any part of the body, sometimes even outside the abdominal cavity, such as in the lungs. (Source: Endometriosis Association Germany)
As someone affected by this condition, I've engaged with it artistically, aiming to spotlight the strength and delicacy inherent in the struggle of those affected. It's also a critique of societal and healthcare systems that discriminate against and downplay the suffering of (particularly non-white) individuals with uteruses. This endeavor allows me to shift perspective, finding beauty and resilience within the deficit, which I accentuate in my vases.
